Monthly U.S. Immigrant, Nonimmigrant and Bulletin Visa Statistics

Immigration to the United States

The reports below contain preliminary data subject to change. Monthly immigration and non-immigration visa statistics, as well as the U.S. visa bulletin, undergo minor statistical variations. The reports provide insight into visa issuances and trends.

Monthly U.S. Immigrant Visa Issuance Statistics

The following reports contain preliminary data that may be subject to changes.

The Visa Office modified its calculation method for visa data starting from FY 2019, continuing with FY 2020, to reflect improved access to program-level data. The previous method was based on workload counts unrelated to program-specific visa issuance.

The new method provides a more accurate representation of final visa application results over a specific reporting period. This includes updates on visa status (such as issued or refused), which may change throughout the fiscal year. Therefore, since FY 2020, individual monthly issuance reports should not be summed, as they do not represent the final fiscal year total. Instead, refer to the annual report from the Visa Office for complete final statistics.

Although the new method is more precise, it does not mean that the previous method was inaccurate. The two methods are simply not directly comparable. However, based on analysis, the difference between the two methods is minimal. For example, the difference between reported Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) and Immigrant Visa (IV) issuances in FY 2018 (previous method) versus FY 2019 (new method) globally was less than 1%.

Please note that the new method applies only to monthly IV issuance reports beginning with reports from December 2019.

Monthly U.S. Non-Immigrant Visa Issuance Statistics

The following reports contain preliminary data subject to change.

The Visa Office modified its visa data calculation method starting from FY 2019 and continuing with FY 2020, allowing more comprehensive reporting at the program level. The previous method relied on workload counts unrelated to program-based visa issuances.

The new method more accurately reflects the final visa application outcomes over a reporting period. This includes updates to visa statuses, which can change throughout the fiscal year and may result in slight data revisions for earlier months.

As a result, since FY 2020, individual monthly issuance reports should not be summed, as they do not provide the accurate total for the fiscal year. Instead, refer to the annual Visa Office report for the final comprehensive statistics.

U.S. Visa Bulletin Statistics

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), in coordination with the Department of State (DOS), revised its visa availability determination methods for employment-based preference cases and family sponsorship categories.

The revised process aligns more closely with DOS practices for foreign nationals seeking immigrant visas through U.S. consulates and embassies abroad.

U.S. Visa Office Reports

The Visa Office Report is an annual statistical publication providing data on immigrant and non-immigrant visa issuances processed by consular offices. It also includes information regarding visa number usage in numerically limited categories.

The Visa Office retains historical reports, though availability may be limited. Interested individuals may inquire about accessing archived records directly through the Visa Office.

The Visa Office Report does not include information on:

  • Humanitarian parole applicants entering from abroad or those applying for humanitarian relief inside the U.S.
  • Non-numerically controlled visa categories for individuals adjusting status to permanent residency (Green Card holders) through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
  • Additional immigration statistics are available from the Office of Immigration Statistics under DHS.
